ROMANIAN ROYAL AERONAUTICS
1875-1947

ANNIVERSARY CERTIFICATE
1875 - 2020

In 1874, three officers of the Romanian Army had the initiative of a balloon flight. They found on this occasion that the balloon could be used to obtain information in case of war.
In 1875 three balloons were purchased and assigned to the army of genius. Without any special organization during the War of Independence (1877-1878), balloons with observers on board were raised on the front line, providing valuable information on the actions of the Ottoman army.
After the war according to the High Royal Decree issued by King Carol I, in 1893 the Military Air Force Station of the Romanian Army was established as a separate section, equipped with observation balloons under the command of Lieutenant Eugeniu Asachi.

After the success of the flight with the plane built and piloted by the engineer Aurel Vlaicu in 1910, the first military pilot officers began to be purchased in Romania and to be licenced.
The Military Aviation became an independent weapon in 1915, when according to the Ministerial Decision no. 305/10 August, the Romanian Aviation Corps was established.
When Romania entered the war against the Austro-Hungarian Empire on August 15, 1916, the Air Force had 44 Nieuport fighter aircraft, 97 pilots and 84 air observers. A year later, 322 fighter, bombing and reconnaissance aircraft were equipped.

After the end of the First World War, the military aviation being considered a distinct weapon within the Romanian Royal Army, it was called the Romanian Royal Aeronautics.

In 1941 the ARR had an impressive fleet of aircraft, totaling 3,150 pieces of which 700 were fighters and 770 were bombers and assaulters.

This Anniversary Certificate was established in the year of 2020 on the occasion of the 145th anniversary of the Romanian Royal Aeronautics which was founded in 1875 and abolished in 1947.

AERONAUTICA  REGALĂ  ROMÂNĂ
1875-1947

DIPLOMĂ  ANIVERSARĂ
1875 - 2020

.

ROMANIAN ROYAL AERONAUTICS
1875-1947

WHITE SQUADRON
1940 – 1945

Anniversary 80 years

On June 25, 1940, at the initiative of Princess Marina Stirbei, the Sanitary Squadron with airplanes piloted by women was established. Initially, the airplanes were white and became better known as the White Squadron, thanks to the Italian writer and journalist Curzio Malaparte who visited it immediately after its establishment and wrote a laudatory article published in the Italian press. During the Second World War, Romania was the only country in the world that had such a squadron. (Cfm. Press release of the Ministry of National Defense no. 183/2012).
It was equipped with 28 aircraft, most of them RWD-13 and RWD-13S of Polish production, but also of other types such as: Monospar ST-25, Potez-65 and one Bücker Bü-131.

Squadron aircraft rescued nearly 10,000 wounded and sick soldiers from the front. They transported medicines and medical supplies to the front line units.
After the end of the war and the occupation of Romania by the Soviet Union, several women pilots were sentenced to prison for "treason"! The betrayal consisted in rescuing several wounded German soldiers. Those who escaped were eliminated from the air force and marginalized. Most had higher education and all were licensed pilots.

It was only after 1989 that their merits were recognized and in 2004, the Romanian Army Film Studio made the documentary "White Squadron", directed by Şerban Creangă.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the White Squadron, but also in memory of the women pilots who did their duty for the country, PRO-CW-Club issued this certificate.

AERONAUTICA  REGALĂ  ROMÂNĂ
1875-1947

ESCADRILA  ALBĂ
1940 – 1945
